These beautiful, hand carved, fair trade Buddha statues were found on Bali. Made by a family of carvers in the hills outside of Ubud, all carved Buddhas are different, and these were chosen for the serenity of their faces and the perfection of their imperfections. The Buddha with the most stunning contrast of wood colors also has a small knot in his back, a reminder of the beauty in our faults.
Both Buddhas are in the Dhyana Mudra. This pose symbolises wisdom and is the mudra of meditation. The Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in this mudra.
Perfect reminders of the beauty of tranquility in any home or alter.
Each piece arrives to you carefully wrapped with handmade notes about its origin, passing on a personal connection and taking some anonymity out of the shopping experience.
Bali is magical. It is the only remaining Hindu island in Indonesia. Arts and culture were highly prized by Indonesia’s Hindu kingdom, and in the 15th century, when it was threatened by imperial Denmark and invading Muslim armies, many of the artists and intellectuals fled to Bali. It has remained a luscious tropical paradise of music, dance, and ritual.
